Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We always offer completely Free, no obligation, Onsite Estimates for all Garage Door Repairs and Installations that are needed. It is very difficult to diagnose all the problems over the phone as there are many different systems and different sized doors; we also have different options to consider with repairs that have different warranty terms available. We always offer a minimum five year parts and labor warranty on all repairs and installations but we do have upgrades available with longer warranties. If you are considering a completely new Garage Door this is where the free estimate really comes in to play because we need to verify our measurements and get an exact idea of what new door you may be looking at in terms of design, color, window options, and grade of insulation. All of our pricing quotes will include tax, labor, tear down and disposal of old parts, doors, or openers; there will never be any hidden or surprise fees. We are very transparent and willing to work with our customers.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our normal process for a new customer, whether this is a repair estimate or installation estimate, is to arrive onsite and check over the entire Garage Door and Opener to get a better idea of what has happened and when the last time it had been serviced to get a better idea of what may need to be done. From there we will offer all the options available for repairs or replacements including our different warranty options. We never pressure any customers to do work they don't want done which is why we always give options. Once we come to an agreement with the customer and have approval we can usually take care of the work right away onsite. If this is a new door estimate that requires a special order or we need to schedule an installation we will also discuss that with the customer onsite. We will then send all receipts and invoices conveniently by e-mail as we are now a paperless company.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
As the owners, Josh and Alex, of Garage Door Repair Company we have over 15 years of experience in the industry and in customer service. Along with being IDA (International Door Association) certified all of our technicians go through a mandatory 90 day minimum training program before they work in the field. We also have a master door installer with 10+ years of experience with a main focus on installation of Garage Doors and Openers to ensure all of our doors are installed properly with no further issues. This helps to ensure that before any technicians enter your home they are prepared to handle all jobs with confidence and take care of you as a customer just like they would take care of family.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
As the owners we have always worked with our hands and in customer service type jobs. Alex got started with Garage Doors at the age of 16 and has been doing that ever since. Josh worked in different customer service jobs and as a technician for a cable company before getting involved with Garage Doors. After that we worked together for the same door company before we decided that we should start our own company. We felt that a focus on customer service had been lost and that things were becoming more about high pressured sales rather than actually taking care of the customer. We decided to start Garage Door Repair Company with a main focus on customer service first to ensure that every experience with us would be a good one and that is reflected now years later with all the reviews we have accumulated on Google+ and Yelp.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with all kinds of different customers at this point from residential home owners to large companies with large dock doors. We have even done some work for a local ice cream shop that has glass garage doors they like to open up in the spring and summer to let fresh air in. We mainly specialize in overhead Garage Doors but have also expanded our expertise to include Roll-up Storage Doors for a few different companies in the Twin Cities area. We really can handle just about any job related to Garage Doors and Garage Door Openers no matter what the size is.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently we installed a couple of custom ordered Garage Doors and new Openers that made the customer's home look like it was a brand new home. The original Garage Doors they had were very basic cookie cutter type doors that look just like every other door in the neighborhood. This customer had a craftsman style home with some custom wood-work done on their house where they had improved the pillars on the front of their porch to a cedar style wood. They also had cleaned up the shakes on certain areas of their siding which was also front facing. It all looked nice but something was missing to tie it all together. That was where we came in; we ordered a customer wood grain finished insulated Garage Door with Long Cross Glass Windows. We also added decorative straps and handles; this really tied everything together from the wood shakes to the cedar pillars. It looked like a brand new house! This customer was very satisfied and also left a great Google+ review and we also have photos on here, our website and Facebook page showing just how beautiful the project looks. The whole process took a couple weeks because we did have to custom order the door and wait for that to arrive. Once the door arrived we were able to install the next day and the whole installation process took about 5-6 hours.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The best advice we can offer is to take advantage of the completely Free, no obligation, Estimates we provide. We always want to be 100% transparent about what our costs are and needs to be done to fix your Garage Door and also make sure that the repairs last. We always give options and will never pressure you to do something you don't want to do. Same thing for New Door Estimates, with so many different options and sizes out there we want to make sure we get everything right for you as a customer so that you are 100% satisfied with the final product and service.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What are the warranty details and length of warranty involved including the fine print details? Many companies offer warranties but not full parts and labor warranties and will charge additional labor for repeat visits; Garage Door Repair Company will not do this. What is the final cost out the door for the repair services? Many companies will tack on service call charges or trip charges when finalizing the work order and invoice so suddenly the price you thought you were going to pay just went up. Is this company fully licensed and insured? There are a lot of small, one man operations in the Twin Cities area that may know what they are doing but may not be fully insured. What is their rating on Google+ or Yelp? Thumbtack is just one place to find professionals but dig a little deeper to see what other customers are saying about these professionals.
