What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied Assessment & Appraisal of real property and began my career working for one of the largest real estate investment trusts in North America.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

At the same time that I was working as a consultant for a very large real estate company, I began investing in real estate for myself and I considered becoming a Realtor except it wasn’t my desire at that time. My parents decided it was time to sell the home that we grew up in and, unfortunately, they had a horrible agent who lied and took advantage of them. I remember seeing my mom crying because of the experience. I knew someday, I wanted to be an agent to make sure my parent’s bad experience never happened to anyone I could help. Becoming a real estate Agent is where my passion for people, connection and my joy to serve was able to be fully revealed and carried out.

What types of customers have you worked with?

We work with Sellers and Buyers and, my goal is to turn my past clients into real estate investors so they too can take advantage of all the incredible opportunities that are available in real estate.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

A recent project that I am (very) fond of is of a client that was referred to me. As a result of the death of both parents, my client became the Trustee of the estate and, the only child was not mentally capable to sell the home themselves. The home was in disarray and in need of major repairs and renovations in order to maximize on the sale of the home. We collaborated with the Trustee and made recommendations as to how best to allocate the renovation budget to increase the home's value. We helped select finishes, colors and materials, secured multiple bids, negotiated pricing with vendors and contractors and, were entrusted with overlooking the entire project to ensure that the project would be done efficiently, correctly and be profitable. From start to finish the complete home renovation took 3 months. We hit the market on a Friday, received 10 offers over the weekend and was sold for $65,000 over asking price. SUCCESS! Now the Trustee can have the peace of mind that the estate will have more than enough to support the child for the rest of their life.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

There are a lot of agents out there, but not all agents are the same. There is a lack of communication, a lack of transparency and, not all agents have the same skillset. My recommendation is to explore your options. It’s important to remember that IF TOP-DOLLAR is your goal, choosing the right agent has to be made as a business decision, not as a personal decision just because you know someone. The key here is simply to keep in mind your ultimate goal of getting top dollar for your house. CAUTION: Many agents will come into your home and all they talk about is what they are going to do to market your home. Beware of an agent that thinks their main job is marketing. You need someone to REPRESENT YOU in getting the best RESULT. The marketing is only the front end of an agent’s responsibilities. With the internet and technology, marketing your home has actually become one of the simplest things an agent does for you. Think about it, are you hiring an agent just to market your home...or to help you get top dollar? You want the result, right? Another word of caution. When you put your home on the market, you are selling one of your most valuable assets, right? Don’t go cheap. There are times when it’s OK to cut corners, and there are times when it pays to invest in quality, competent professional representation. We’ve all heard the saying, “You get what you pay for.”
