Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I am a provider for many different insurance companies to include BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, and others. I do not take Medicare, Medicaid or United Health Care at this time. My fee is 215.00 per 60 minute session. Payment is due at the time of service, by cash, check, credit card, Paypal, Venmo, CashApp, or Apple Pay. I also accept HSA cards. If self paying, I accept cash, check, all major credit cards, and HSA cards through your employer. If using insurance; I will submit claims for you, even if I am out of network. You may have a co-pay, co-insurance, or deductible to meet as well.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I try to make the process as comfortable, convenient, and easy as possible. Clients make appointments with me through text or email. We often consult briefly on the phone first. I email them some information and a questionnaire to fill out. Our first appointment, whether by phone or in person, is about getting acquainted, and asking questions to understand the problems or issues for which the appointment was made. Starting with that first meeting or call, I ensure that there is time to discuss the immediate problem at hand; while doing a thorough evaluation. Within the first couple of sessions, I collaborate with my clients on a plan as to how to move forward, so that they can get what they need out of therapy.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have over twenty years of experience in the mental health field, three licenses through the State of Nebraska, and earn 32 hours of Continuing Education every two years. I have received advanced level training in several areas; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.(DBT). In addition, I have lived all over the country and have worked with a diverse clientele.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I majored in music; found out I am only mediocre; and transitioned into Music Therapy. I wasn’t very good at that either! However; this led me to the mental health field. I finally found something I was good at and made a career out of it. What good fortune I have had. After many years of doing more “traditional” kinds of social work, my career evolved to being a therapist in private practice. It was a natural fit. The clients I have been so privileged to work with, have greatly enriched my life as I hope I have done for them. I’m very thankful.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Couples, individuals, families, and young 20's adolescents.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I never cease to be amazed by the changes that people are willing and capable of making in their lives. It has been it a privilege to witness; and exciting to see so many lives changed because of the work we’ve done together. I am truly engaged with the people I see and am invested in their overall well-being; but more specifically to ensure they are getting what they need out of therapy. Change is absolutely possible, and I’ve seen that consistently in my practice.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Assuming the provider is licensed, educated and trained; make sure that you like, trust, and feel some sort of connection to the therapist you hire.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
My first piece of advise is, don’t overthink it, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to ask the “right” questions. Sometimes people don’t even have questions in the beginning because therapy is so new to them. That is ok! That being said, here are some ideas. What am I hoping to gain from therapy? What are the issues or problems I want to work on? How often and what works best in my schedule? What does my budget allow for?
